Crochet Heart Card

I recently learned how to make crochet hearts...and I've made quite a few in a short period of time. So I figured I better find something creative to do with all of them. I made a list and here is craft #1.

Crochet Heart Card

Who doesn't love a fancy card!

Materials: Card Stock or Pre-folded card, eyelet, crochet heart, fray check, stamps optional.

Step 1: Mark where you will place the eyelet.

Step 2: Insert strings through eyelet and tie into a bow

Step 3: Use fray check on the ends of the strings. (I didn't want the ends to unravel)

And here's the finished product! Super cute!!

You could also add stamp letters to the front to add a message.

This time I liked the simpleness of the white on white.

Hip Chicks Cook Too! Granola Recipe

Although this site was intended for crafts only, I've decided to start including fun recipes. After all, us Hip Chicks can cook too!! Right??

Today's recipe is for healthy granola. It's my hubby's granola recipe. It's so YUMMY! I love it over yogurt or ice cream. Hubby eats with milk and the kids just eat plain.

Recipe~

2 Cups of Oats
1/2 Cup of Sliver Almonds (or Chopped Walnuts)
1 tsp Cinnamon (add more for taste up to 1 tablespoon)
1/2 tsp nutmeg (add more for taste up to 1/2 tablespoon)
1/4 Cup of Canola Oil
1 tsp of vanilla
1/4 Cup of Honey

(you can taste the granola before putting it in the oven to see if you need to add more cinnamon or nutmeg)

Place in the center of a cookie sheet and spread out (like a big pancake)

Cook at 275 for 17-20 min

Let it stand for about 20 min, place in a bowl and add dried fruit.

1/2 cup of dried blueberries
or
1/2 cup of cranberries
or
1/2 cup of golden raisins

Add as much dried fruit as you like, or a combination of dried fruit.

Face Scrubbies

I've been working on crochet face scrubbies. They are great for removing make-up or general face washing. Lathers up great and gently exfoliates to leave you with fresh, glowing skin. I made one last night to try and LOVED it! I used with my facial soap. Also, wouldn't they be great to use while bathing babies?!

Not only are these scrubbies fun to use, they are also 'green'. So for those who are envionmentally conscience, you'll dig these scrubbies.

These would make a great gift for your girlfriend, mother, daughter or aunt.

The great thing is you can use and then throw in the washing machine to clean, dry on low or lay flat to dry. Avoiding washing them with towels, as the lint from the towels cling to the scrubbies. I used 100% cotton yarn to make them.

I'm working on a facial washcloth as well, so I'll keep you posted how that turns out.

Materials:

Cotton Yarn (Worsted medium weight)
G/4.00 Crochet Hook
Yarn needle
Scissors

Pattern:

Round 1: Ch 2, work 10 sc in 2nd ch from hood. Sl st to first sc to join.

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st as ch-3. Work 2 dc in next dc and each dc all the way around. Sl st to top of ch-3 to join.

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as ch-3.  *1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc*, repeat from * to * around. St st to top of ch-3 to join.

To Finish: Cut yarn and pull through look on hook, weave in all tails.

Crochet Basket - Featured Craft

I found this pattern for a crochet basket and thought it was super cute. So while watching the Grammy Awards last night I created one of my own.

The pattern recommended using heavy cotton yarn, but I had some thick wool yarn I used instead.

Chick Pea Studio has a simple and easy to follow downloadable tutorial. The pattern can be changed to alter the size of the basket. To either make it larger or smaller, all you have to do is add or subtract the number of rows at the base.

I'm using my basket to hold all my yarn. My kids loved this basket so much that they've asked me to make one for them.
